(Not for actual production, see links for more details)

Slide 1: Making Biodiesel is Fun (Laura on Left), but also serious (Charlie on right with googles, gloves, apron, proper ventilation, and err of caution).

Slide 2: Alaina (left) Christy (right) and The Ingredients

- Methanol (in red), Lye (white container left), &

Fry Oil (5 gallon jug on right)

Slide 3: Testing the pH of feed stock (oil) to determine amount of Lye used.

Slide 4: Methanol, racing fuel, is very flammable, be extra careful and mix with lye in spark-free environment. (Methanol can be found at your local refinery, maybe a town or two away)

Slide 6: Mix Lye / Methanol blend into fryer oil, with blender type unit or pump system to create reaction.

Slide 7: Electric heaters only, no propane or open flame. Have a thermometer handy, 120-130F good, but Methanol boils at 147F.

Slide 8: Example of Mixer Unit.

Mixing Time, Take 5, About (1 hour +) Do not over heat.

Settleing Time: 8 hours for glycerin to settle. Some can be drained off sooner, thus making a more thorough reaction.

Slide 9: Glycerine, darker, thiker, and more dense, is drained from the lower part of tank. Biodiesel is on top.
